Position Scope

ML Northern is seeking STEAMERS to join our remote mining site team in the Fort McMurray area.

 

For this role, ML Northern offers a combined rate of up to $35.15/hour as well as room for growth!

 

Where You’ll Be Working

  • Site: The successful candidates could work on any of one of our current sites: Suncor, Syncrude and Kearl.
  • Schedule: 14 x 14, 12-hour days (paid for 11.5 hours).
  • Accommodations: Camp accommodations are a possibility but not a guarantee.
  • Transportation: Flights may be provided to and from Edmonton or Calgary (when going to select sites). Bussing provided from Fort McMurray to site (before and after shift).
  • Overtime: Provided after 8 hours in a day or 44 hours in a week.

 

We are proud to work with the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 955.  Successful candidates will become a part of that union.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Steaming of mining & support equipment, with some laborer duties
  • Assist with additional tasks including general yard clean up, assisting mechanics and steamers and other day to day tasks as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor
  • Help in all tasks including general yard clean up, assisting mechanics and servicepersons, and other day to day tasks as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor
  • Very physically demanding position working in adverse conditions
  • Ensure compliance to all company, client and legislated safety policies, operating standards and procedures 
  • Using adequate and suitable safety equipment, including PPE
  • Reviewing safe work plans/ hazard assessment with prior to job commencement and follow all requirements
  • Complete equipment/ area walk-arounds, safety checks and field level risk assessments and ensure all equipment is running properly
  • Report any necessary or anticipated repairs to the maintenance team or supervisors immediately
  • Report all incidents, near misses or damage immediately

 

Qualifications

What Makes You the ONE

  • Valid Class 3 Driver’s License with Air Brake Endorsement preferred
  • Valid Class 5 may also be accepted for candidates with related experience
    • It will be expected for a Class 3 License (with Air Brake Endorsement) to be obtained within the first 3 months of employment
  • Must be able to operate a standard vehicle
  • Preference will be given to candidates with related experience or mechanical background 
  • Must be a self-starter
  • Experience operating forklift, bobcat and loader would be an asset
  • Aerial Work Platform (AWP) and Fall Arrest Certification would be an asset
  • Access to Suncor, Syncrude and Syncrude Aurora & Kearl
  • A safety-first attitude
  • Attentive and possess strong listening skills
  • High school diploma, GED, and/or post-secondary education is considered an asset.
  • Be proficient in English, both verbally and written
  • CSO Certification

 

Summary

If you are chosen to move forward in our hiring process for a site-based role, you will be asked to provide the following:

  1. Class 3 Driver’s License with Air Brake Endorsement and ability to provide a recent Driver’s Abstract (Class 5 may be accepted)
  2. Valid CSO
  3. Silica Awareness 
  4. Wood Buffalo Wildlife Awareness
  5. Be subject to Random Testing at: Suncor, Suncor Fort Hills and Kearl sites
  6. Undergo and successfully pass the following pre-employment testing:
    • Breath Alcohol Test
    • Urine Drug Test
    • Fitness-to-Work Health Assessment
    • Audiometric Testing
    • Vision Screening

Once dispatched the following processes will occur:

  1. Will receive a call to set up all required pre-employment testing
  2. An email will be sent with all required New Hire Paperwork to be filled out
  3. After all results and paperwork are received, candidates will be contacted by Site Admin to schedule orientation and confirm your start date and other site-specific details.

Please note: The onboarding process can take anywhere from 3-8 business days.
