    Position Scope

    Reporting directly to the Assistant Controller - Corporate, the Financial Accounting Lead – Corporate Reporting is responsible for leading the preparation of the quarterly and annual Financial Statements, Management Discussion and Analysis (MD&A), Annual Information Form (AIF) and tax returns in addition to preparing financial and SEC reports required by various regulatory bodies. They will interpret accounting pronouncements and bulletins, ensuring compliance with US GAAP and with the company’s internal controls over financial reporting and accounting.


    • Lead the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements and MD&A (including notes and supporting tables).
    • Lead the accounting research, including assessment of accounting issues and new accounting standards to ensure compliance with US GAAP and preparation of position papers as required.
    • Support the Process Owner and sub-Process Owners in the review, monitoring and testing of Financial Reporting internal controls.
    • Manage the timely and accurate completion of the quarterly and annual “Prepared by Client” items pertaining to compliance and reporting to support the external audit and review activities.
    • Participate in the development, implementation and monitoring of the Company’s tax strategy to effectively use Revenue Canada permitted tax planning opportunities to minimize the Company’s current tax expense and effectively use all the Company’s deferred tax assets.
    • Assist in ensuring the Company’s compliance with Provincial sales & use tax regulations and remittances, ensuring monitoring and analysis processes are in place and managed to properly assess the correct sales & use tax treatment for all transactions.
    • Participate in the preparation of quarterly and year-end tax provision schedules by preparing, reviewing and consolidating provision schedules.
    • Assist with the preparation of tax returns and filing of annual corporate income tax returns including federal, provincial/state and local tax returns.


    • Designated in Canadian accounting program (CPA, CA, CMA or CGA)
    • Experience in public practice
    • Experience relating to financial reporting and analysis
    • Experience in preparing tax returns and reporting
    • Three years of post-designation experience
    • Industrial construction and/or mining experience is considered an asset
    • Strong interpersonal, organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Proven ability to perform under tight timelines in a fast-paced environment
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently
    • Demonstrated ability to influence peers and superiors
    • Experience in JD Edwards system is considered an asset
    • Intermediate user of Microsoft Excel preferred
    • Solid accounting knowledge
    • Strong attention to detail
